The Lake District

Last week I went to the Lake District, after 4 trains and a bus we finally arrived at our beautiful B&B (complete with complimentary chocolates, cookies and a teddy bear- I was happy!) and began to settle in. Due to all the transport we'd taken, we had seen quite a few of the sights and views on the way so just went out for dinner and walked about the town for the evening.
My first meal of the holiday
The next day we climbed Helvellyn (the third highest mountain in England). We got to the highest point (finally) but it was NOT easy. It began a steady and pleasant walk, it was dry and not too windy and we were saying 'hello' to almost everyone we came across. But the higher we got the wetter, windier and mistier it got - to such a point that not only could we not see the top but we also couldn't see the bottom either! Nearing the top I saw what I thought was a cow...then thought it was a boulder...then saw some legs...it turned out to be a sheep the size of a cow, I could not believe the size of the sheep! The walk back down was probably the hardest part of the day, the mountain was just so steep to walk down - my feet ached so much!

Lake District Mount Helvellyn
The top of the mountain! Look at all of the great views...oh wait!
After walking a mountain the previous day we decided to have a less strenuous day to follow! First we went to the Pencil Museum which was very small but very interesting! After exploring the museum we picked up a tour bus which took us round some of the fantastic landscape. Once back in the town we were staying in we did some walking along one of the many rivers with a well deserved ice cream!

Stunning views from the bus
Lake Buttermere was on the cards for the next day. We even had some sun as we walked around the beautiful lake taking in all the views of the fells surrounding the lake. As a treat for walking around the lake - which is huge  - we had some chocolate. It was so fancy it was in a little cardboard box!
So posh!

Stunning lake and views - highly recommend this walk!
For the last day of my holiday we went on several tour buses to various parts of the Lake District and went on a cruise on Lake Windermere! The weather wasn't too great but we still managed to see some great sights! I also enjoyed a yummy hot chocolate at the headquarters of Lakeland at Windermere!
Tour bus!
Love a hot chocolate!
The last day was upon us before we knew it, we waved goodbye to our B&B and began the long journey back home (cue violins).
Loved this door - reminded me of the one from Nanny McPhee!
Highly recommend going to the Lake District, it's such a beautiful place!
