GUEST POST: 10 Films For Valentine's

This is Victoria's post she did kindly for me, I have followed her blog pretty much since she started blogging and I love it - especially her homeware posts! HERE's her blog, check it out!

The Adjustment Bureau (2011)

Perfect if you love a thriller

Starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt, The Adjustment Bureau tells the story of David (Damon), who on the night of losing a congressional election meets Elise (Blunt), who inspires him to make a candid concession speech that dramatically improves his popularity. A few years later, they meet by chance, and plan to see each other again but fate has other plans. David soon realises that he is not in control of his fate, and that a group of mysterious men called The Adjustment Bureau will do anything they can to keep Elise and David apart.

Howl's Moving Castle (2004)

Perfect if you love animation

Howl's Moving Castle is a movie from the Japanese film company studio Ghibli (Spirited Away) and follows the story of Sophie, a young girl who ends up being cursed by a witch to be in the body of an old woman. She soon realises her only hope if she ever wants to be young again is to seek the help of Howl, a self centred wizard, notorious for breaking young girl's hearts.

Pride and Prejudice (2005)

Perfect if you love a period romance

Based on the Austen novel of the same name, Pride and Prejudice is a must watch for any romantics at heart. Pride and Prejudice tells the story of Elizabeth Bennet (Keira Knightley), one of five sisters, who has a mother who is desperate for them all to marry as they have no male heir to inherit their estate. Soon two rich bachelors arrive, the charming Mr Bingley and the proud Mr Darcy, who Mrs Bennet is more than keen to marry her daughters off to.

Clueless (1995)

Perfect if you love a chick flick and Jane Austen's Emma

She fancies herself a matchmaker and tries to set up two of the teachers at her school, as well as her friend Tai (Brittany Murphy). Soon she realises that she's not the best matchmaker in the world, and actually she's pretty clueless about her own love life too.

Wild Child (2008)

Perfect if you want to watch an upbeat chick flick

Wild Child tells the story of spoilt American teenager Poppy (Emma Roberts), who is sent to a British boarding school by her father to try to fix her bad behaviour. When she arrives, she decides from the offset she will do anything to get expelled. However things become complicated when she starts to have feelings for the Headmistresses's son, Freddie (Alex Pettyfer).

Notting Hill (1999)

Perfect if you love a good British Rom Com

You've Got Mail (1998)

Perfect if you love a good rom com

You've Got Mail tells the story of two strangers who meet online and start to fall in love. However what they don't realise is that they actually know each other in real life. Sliding Doors (1998)

Perfect if you don't mind crying your eyes out

Sliding Doors explores how a woman's life is radically change by either being in time for a train or missing it. The film runs in parallel, so we see what happens to Helen (Gwyneth Paltrow) and how her fate is changed by either catching or missing this train.

Charade (1963)

Perfect if you love crime/thriller films with a romantic storyline

Starring the lovely Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant (think George Clooney of the past), Charade tells the story of Regina Lampert, who's husband is murdered whilst she is away on a skiing trip. Things become even more complicated when Regina learns that her husband had stolen money, but this is nowhere to be found. Suspicions are quickly thrown on to Regina - if they can't find the money in her husband's possessions, she must know where it is. Soon she finds herself trusting the handsome stranger Peter Joshua (Cary Grant), who is keen to help her find the money and protect her from the criminals who keep threatening her.

Much Ado About Nothing (1993)

Perfect if you love Shakespeare

Starring Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson, Much Ado About Nothing tells the story of two people who just cannot stand each other. Whenever they can, they are criticising and making fun of each other. However, their friends soon decide to play cupid and try to get the two together by convincing them both that the other one is in love with them.

Review: Into The Woods

I know I'm late to jump on this bandwagon BUT I did actually watch this a couple of weeks back and have only just come about to write my review!
Source
When I saw the trailer for this I knew right away I'd want to see it: a musical, Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick and many more famous faces - what more could I want!? Oh yeah, the fact it's DISNEY!!

The film is very clever in the sense that it captures many fairy tales and puts them all into one, there's elements of: Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella and Jack and The Beanstalk. The film is actually based on the Broadway musical going by the same name which I thought was very cool and how amazing would it be to see this live on stage!?
Source
The basic synopsis is that a baker and his wife wish desperately for a child but a witch has laid a curse on them and only if they bring her: a cow as white as milk, a slipper as pure as gold, hair as yellow as corn and a cape as red as blood will the curse be lifted! You can probably already picture the individual fairy tales just by that list but what I liked was the fact that I thought I knew what the film would be like and then suddenly other characters are revealed and more events occur and it keeps the audience on the edge of their seat!

Overall, I really liked this film and will now be taking some of the songs with me for my road trip around Europe!!

Book Review: Gone Girl

As a few of you may know I am a writer, not just in the sense of blogging but I write articles for my local newspaper (and online) as well as entering poetry competitions. One of the bad things about loving writing this much is that things like reading kind of fall off the bandwagon! Gone Girl is the first book in about 3 years I've read! I know, that's so bad, I'm actually embarrassed writing it!

Here's a small summary of the book: Nick's wife, Amy,  goes missing on their 5 year anniversary. The crime scene, a diary and internet history all lead to the police and public believing that Nick is responsible, but as the story unfolds and other characters are revealed is he still the one to blame?

ANYWAY...This book is AMAZING! You think you know where it's going then BAM! Plot twist...It's so gripping and I love the amount of detail you find out about each character. I kind of like how it jumps around a character's timeline - it's not confusing as it's quite structured but it makes you feel like you really KNOW the character and what they're like rather than other books where the whole story is set in the present.

I think all the characters in the book are relevant and have an involvement in some way or another in the storyline which I like because I don't like reading about characters in books which don't seem to have an relevance to the actual story!

As a non book reader of about 3 years I REALLY recommend reading this! Next stop for me will be watching the film - woo!

How To: Have a Lazy Day

My life can sometimes be pretty hectic and busy - not to mention stressful - so occasionally I'll have days where I pretty much do nothing but lay in bed all day on my laptop. I thought I'd share with you how my lazy days pan out!

Firstly, I love my teddies! I don't care that I'm WAY past the age of having them, they're soft and comfy and have been with me since I was very young so I love being in bed with them haha!
Another thing I love is my dressing gown, I bought it from Marks & Spencer and it's really big and nice and fluffy, I look so frumpy in it but I'm too comfy in it to care! Also cosy socks are a must!
I usually watch TV catch up, YouTube or films on my laptop in bed or sometimes I look through old photos of past holidays etc.
Sometimes I'll have some treats with me too and if I'm feeling really lazy and in need of some real comfort I'll order a pizza! A hot chocolate is a must have for me on a lazy day too.
revels chocolate
dominoes pizza

Hope you liked this post and it gave you more of an insight into what I get up to on my down days!
